How to calculate cumulative GPA in College.
I have been facing questions from student asking on how
they can calculate their semester Grade Point Average (GPA), So now I decided
to write and share with you an article if you’re a new on school especially
university/college on how you can calculate your semester GPA very easier. First
let get familiar with what GPA means.
What is GPA?
Is simply a measure used for academic accomplishment at
various education institution especially universities and colleges that
accumulates final grades learned in courses over time you spend at the institutions.
Usually the university calculate the GPA at each end of
a course, semester and the cumulative GPA that involves an average of all
grades individual students earned from the time enrolled in a college to the
completion of the education.
The Grade Point Average (GPA) you will find listed on
your academic transcript after the accomplishment of your study.
Often GPA from some university is calculated using your
grade you scored and the number of course unit. Take the point you scored from
the courses for each course multiply with the course credit (number of unit)
and sum the product you get from all courses then divide with the total number
of unit.
After accomplishment of your study while searching for
your career dream job, you will find some private companies and government institution
specifying direct the average GPA they do prefer so that you can be hired by
them. So, make sure you achieve best GPA.
Some university hire their student as tutorial
assistant, assistant lecturer, system admin, accountant, etc. after the
accomplishment of the study if he/she achieved the best in their career
especially best overall GPA.
The education institution reward accomplishment
certificate depending on cumulative GPA you achieved through out which grades
the certificate award in classes such as First class, Second class (Upper and
Lower), etc.
But remember the course credit may differ depending on
the university from a certain country.
Here the steps to calculate the GPA in college.
- Review your academic history
- Check for course point in your college course spectrum.
- If you have the calculator, set your calculator in such a way no round off of result.
- Assign course point to each grade. Here I will use the sample grades but not real so that you can catch up easily.
Assume: A = 5. B+
= 4. B = 3. C = 2. D = 1. E = 0.5.
Assume we have three courses with the following points.
Loans risk = 10.
Credit card = 7.
Mobile app = 8.
So, now multiply the grades point and course point.
Here now: Assume
you scored: A in loans course, B in credit card course and B+ in mobile app course.
So, will be:
5 * 10 = 50.
3 * 7 = 21.
4 * 8 = 32.
Total number = 103.
Total number of unit for both courses: 10 + 7 + 8 = 25:
- Now, divide total number and the total number of unit for both courses.
So you’re GPA after dividing = (103 /25) = 4.1
.
Hopeful now you’re aware with the GPA calculation. like the article? please share and let your friends now also.
