How to install drivers in windows 7

In windows 7 isn’t necessary to update drivers often but you might need to do so especially if during installation of windows 7, some drivers were not automatically installed, you want to enable new feature to your device, you might be troubleshooting the device so you will need to update the driver for that device.

During installation of drivers in windows 7 you may decide to use different ways, here I will be explaining four ways you can use to install drivers to your device running windows 7 as Operating System. Also in this article, I will be sowing sample with image on updating display driver for both automatic and manual update to summarize the article so that might be easy for you to catch up easily.

Steps one and the best way is to download the latest drivers from manufacturer website, which will prevent you from browsing from malicious website that can harm your computer and break your privacy. Also often drivers found from manufacturer website will be most tested and up to date. If the manufacturer website doesn’t have any update for the same driver your finding is better not to update the driver software because the manufacturer is always have the original latest source of any driver.

You will need to check and identify the model of specific device you need driver to install to your computer, here the steps to check drivers to your computer
Right click on My Computer (Computer), click manage will prompt a message for a permission from user account click Yes. The window titled Computer management will open click the navigation tab, on your left hand hit device manager. Find the device that you need to be reinstalled.

Alternatively, Open control panel, select hardware and sound, under Device and Printer click Device manager. The window entitled Device manager will open tap on the driver you need to be installed to your computer check the driver name then close the session.

Open your browser, type in computer manufacturer name on the search address then hit enter, Many search result will appear on search page don’t get discouraged find the manufacturer website for your computer since every manufacture has a website for customers support, drivers downloads, and troubleshooting information. Click the page.

Check if website has download area, check either of the following name from the bar menu on manufacture website named, “Downloads”, “Drivers and Firmware”, “Software Downloads”, “update and install drivers’ option”. Then click on it. Type the driver name on the search bar, then download drivers and save it to your computer. But make sure you download driver related to the type of windows 7 you have installed whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit.

Always the drivers file are zipped, Unzip the file to specific location. If you have extra folders on the same location you may decide to create new folder, then copy and paste your zipped file then unzip the file. Will help your from being confused to find the unzipped folder.

Now click Start, Right click my computer, Manage will prompt a message for permission from user account click Yes. The window will open click the navigation tab, on your left hand select device manager.

Double click on the device you want to update drivers. Right click on the driver’s then click “Update driver Software…” the window Update Driver software wizard – “DRIVER NAME” will open asking, how you want to search for driver software. Since you have saved driver folder in your computer click “Browse my computer for driver software, Click browse button on the right to find the location and select the directory where the driver file were saved and then OK.

Click next, now the driver is now being installed in your device, Reboot your computer for effect to take place when prompted to do so.

Verify if the drivers are installed successfully

Use above steps to open device manager, and follow all steps
Double-click the device you installed, Right click on the driver, scroll down at the bottom select Properties. Click driver tap. Now verify the Driver date and Driver version if their correct.

Second option search automatically for update driver

Use above steps to open Device manager, Double click on the device you want to install, Right click on the driver select Update driver software, Click Search automatically for updated driver software, this will allow your windows to search your computer latest drivers software from the internet for your device. But make sure during installation of windows you enabled this feature otherwise would not respond. Now your windows will start searching for driver on the internet observe patience might take 20 minutes or more not fixed may differ also. Now you can verify if the driver installed successful to your device from above steps.

Third option Use the Driver CD

At the time you buy your computer will be given Windows drivers CD. So insert windows driver CD into the DVD drive. Now you can either decide to select direct the driver you want to reinstall or select install all drivers that will scan for absent driver and reinstall.

  • Right click my computer (Computer)

  • Open control Panel

Now I will be installing Wireless Network adapter card especially “Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter”.


To check the manufacture of the driver, Right click on the driver >> Properties >> now check the manufacturer. For my case manufacturer is Qualcomm Atheros Communication Inc. 


Open your browser type the manufacturer name on the address bar
Type “QUALCOMM Atheros Communication Inc.” Open the website page.
Click More (three horizontal line), on the search bar type Qualcomm Atheros Wireless drivers. The list of drivers will be listed select the driver depending on the operating system and version you installed to your Computer. For my case I selected AR5BWB222 and windows 7, 32 bit operating system, then download and save to your computer.

Extract the files
Open device manager, double click on Network adapter, Right click on the driver >> Update driver software


Search automatically for updated driver software, then follow the browsing wizard, find the location where you saved the file. Click Ok then Next.


To install automatic use the above steps to open the device manager, right click on the driver, Update driver software.
Click on Search Automatically for updated driver software. Now your windows will start searching for computer drive online.


Now done

You can verify if driver installed successful,by observing on Driver date and Driver Version use above steps.
