operating system has built in camera desktop application that lets you make
Skype video calls, you can use to take a picture, record videos while sitting
in front of your PC screen/monitor at home, offices, coffee club, classroom and
much more.
Some people around worry
about unidentified apps or malware to use their PC camera because of privacy
issue, some apps might need to have access of your PC camera so that can do
anything with your camera and break your privacy. So you need to make sure how
your PC camera is used, that’s why you’re always told when your camera is
turned on: if your device comes with a camera light, the light will turn on
when the camera is in use and if your system doesn’t have a camera light,
you’ll get a notification to let you know when the camera turns on or off.
Some apps installed in
your PC need/request to access your camera to work as intended if you decide to
turn off the app so that it can’t use camera might limit what it can do within
your machine. But not all apps need to access your camera; some apps might be
spying on you. Windows settings give you a control to decide over which apps
can use your camera. Here I will share to you the tips on how to choose app
that can use PC camera.
- Go to windows settings, press Win + I to open settings, or type settings on the bar near to windows icon at the right bottom corner named search the web and windows, click on it.
- On settings, there are several options, select privacy (padlock icon). From the list on left tab select camera and choose your preferred setting for let apps use my camera hardware.
- Under choose apps that can use your camera, turn on or off the toggle of the individual settings app and services or under Camera (lets apps use my camera) turn on or off for both apps and services.
How to control which apps can use the microphone
Some apps need to use your
PC microphone to work as intended otherwise might not work properly, but not
all apps need access to it so you need
to control over which apps can use your microphone. Here I will share tips on
how to choose app that can use your PC microphone.
- Go to start button (Win icon) on taskbar then select then select settings, or press Win + I to open settings. On opened window select privacy (camera, location).
- On left tab of the window on the screen select microphone, you can decide to turn off or on both apps using “let apps use my camera toggle” or you might turn on or off the individual app by pressing the toggle in front of each app under choose apps that can use your microphone.
Conclusion
Remember even if you turn
off all apps under choose apps that can use your camera or lets apps use my
camera, some of the application might be to open the PC camera to let you take
a picture or video. But all of this will be possible if you press the photo or
video button by yourself.
